A nice little story Sue. The innocence of youth shattered !

I'm sure we have all been through something like that yet we continue to watch Dr Who !

And talk about it as well.  Maybe we are still in school in some way ?

SUE P at April 16, 2017 at 10:41 PM

When I was eleven I was sitting in my lounge room watching our black and white which happened to be one of very few in town. While watching my favourite show Dr Who (ABC 6.30 Mon- Friday), I often dreamed that one day I would love to ride in the Tardis anywhere in the universe- not just in the world. Even so young I never thought I?d go to another world before I went to another country.

The Daleks were chasing the Dr through caverns ? ?exterminate, exterminate?!

Typically, I hid behind a pillow firmly believing, as kids in any generation do, that this was the end of The Dr. Then there was a long silence. Soon enough I peeped over my pillow and the reality of the chase had just shifted to another field. Who changed the channel? My reality had been magically altered!

There, behind a collapsed wall was a man with a head mic, clipboard and another holding a large rope which turned out to be a cable.

I screamed out for mum.

She explained what had happened.

I was devastated. How could they do that to me?

Worse still, I couldn?t even discuss it with my mates at school the next day. Why? Because if they had a TV they were not allowed to watch the show as it was deemed too much for kids my age and anyway, their dad and mum would be watching the game show on the only other channel. My parents always indulged my fantasy, foregoing their please to let me watch my show each and every weekday. And worse still- I would?ve had to wait to get to school- oh for an email, twitter, IPhone etc. All I had was my voice at little lunch and lunch.

Though, even after the 1964 debacle I have continued to travel with the Dr, never missing an episode. And now I have inspired my three sons to follow suit. By the time Patrick Troughton had been reincarnated as the new Dr and after the collapse of the set, I did realise it was all ?made up? though missed that social discussion and interaction with my peers.

Welcome to ABC Whovians Sue.

Thank you for sharing your memories with us.  :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAUL MCGANN !

Paul McGann was born 14 November 1959 and today celebrates his 58th birthday.

McGann of course succeeded Sylvester McCoy and became the 8th Doctor. He only had the chance to play the role on screen once in the 1996 TV movie, but cemented himself through the audio dramas.

Then he surprised us all on this very day in 2013 making his triumphant return to the screen in the 50th anniversary minisode, The Night of the Doctor.

Happy birthday, Paul!

I'd like to see Paul McGann's 8th Doctor meet the new Lady Doctor Jodie Whittaker.

I think they'd make a very handsome couple.

What do you think?   8)

Remembering The War Doctor.

The late, great Sir John Hurt was born on this day in 1940.

Hurt’s entrance into the world of Doctor Who was of course a hugely memorable one when he first appeared as a forgotten incarnation of our favourite Time Lord in 2013’s “The Name of the Doctor”, and then more significantly in the 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor”.

Hurt passed in 2017 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Today we honour the man who would have been 78 today.
